My friend has just introduced your page to me. I’m already hooked, it’s so refreshing to read about the role of inflammation.
I’m also picking up little bits I need to try after beginning with migraines, and already diagnosed with endo, since IVF treatment in 2023.
I would like to point out your definition of endometriosis is incorrect as endometriosis cells are similar but not the same as endometrial cells. My personal favourite definition is:
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other parts of the body.
Why?
- Because it includes the word inflammatory which is a vital aspect of endometriosis and the treatment of it. As you write about.
- ‘Other Parts of the body’ rather than outside of the uterus/in places where it shouldn’t be (it shouldn’t be anywhere!). I think it’s important to not link to the lining of the womb as it further perpetuates the incorrect definition and therefore effective treatment.
- Latest research shows structural differences between the endometrium and endometriosis. Which will be important to the treatment of it.
The contraceptive pill is also a treatment for symptoms rather than endometriosis, although previously thought it stops growth, it can actually continue growing and causing damage even when cycles are stopped. Again, important for treatment as so many women are given hysterectomies to help with endometriosis but they womb and endometriosis are separate entities. There’s a link but by taking out the womb it doesn’t treat endometriosis.
This study talks about some structural differences:

This one is reviewing the researching and reviewing it, it also talks of the limitation of the definition of endometriosis against its complexity.
