FAQ Episode 37: Why does Natural Migraine Relief focus on non-drug therapy?
Frequently Asked Questions about Natural Migraine Relief
As you read this Substack’s blog posts or go through the Natural Migraine Relief course (for paid subscribers,) you will note that there is little mention of the many prescription drugs typically used to treat migraine headaches. This is by design, with the following rationale:
You will find that most physicians focus on prescription drug therapy. It will be the main thing and many times the only therapy option you will be offered. Your primary care physician or a neurology specialist will be able to present various prescription drug options, taking into account your medical history and how a new drug will interact with any prescriptions you are already taking. I hope that the option of good conventional care and appropriate drug therapy options are readily available for your consideration.
Prescription drug therapy is typically aimed at alleviating acute migraine episodes along with associated pain management. And that also can be a very good thing. But with rare exceptions, these treatments do not get at the root cause of why you are having the migraine. Some of the more recent advances DO address a root cause such as blocking the effects of the CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide) molecule. It works very well for some people, but the percentage of patients it helps, and its efficacy in clearing migraines is incomplete. This is not because its not an amazing drug class. It is. But even if it helps with one migraine root cause, most people have multiple underlying root causes that drive their migraines.
Information about non-drug therapy for migraine that integrates with other medical issues is scattered about the internet. It can be difficult to gather up and organize how these potential options relate to your specific situation. That is where this course can help you to organize reliable options for your recovery where gaps still remain.
I don’t have any monetary interest in promoting any one “treatment,” be it a drug or supplement. My aim in this substack blog and my online course is to bring you options about migraine root causes and their management options. My goal is empowering you to choose wisely on your one-of-a-kind path to migraine recovery.
I would greatly appreciate your feedback if you feel that there are topics I have neglected or those that may benefit from further clarification. Thanks in advance for your comments!
